As a home based entrepreneur, you can craft your income producing activities based on your own goals and schedules. There are no bosses breathing down at your shoulder, no corporate rules and regulations to follow rigid and inflexible work schedules.
But be cautioned that since you have the freedom to run your business as you choose, in the comfort and convenience of your own homes, things can get unorganized and out of focus if you are not careful. It is natural to end up like you slip and forced to alternate from work responsibility to family mode. You need to think though, plan and force yourself if needed, to strike a balance between two sides- activities that are your work related and related to personal life. It becomes more difficult to stick with the plan if you have young children at home.
What are certain things you need to keep in mind so you can balance your responsibilities of your business v/s personal matters? Let's take a look at what one can do to accomplish that:
1. Have a predetermined business work hours: No matter even if you don't have a business related visitors or customers coming to your house. Mentally determine and stick with that schedule.
2. Minimize distractions: Controlling distractions minute by minute is a talent. Treat your business like it is. You won't be able to go to kitchen to eat something if you were working outside the home. So get that mind set at the beginning. Television, house cleaning, social chatting online or on the phone are time wasting activities which must be controlled.
3. Avoid extended work hours: Establish that hours and stick with that. Control the urge to get to work extended hours to get an assignment finished. Stop working when the time is up and close the door and switch to family mode.
4. Lunch time is to lunch: Go somewhere else and eat your lunch. Even if you have to leave your desk and go another part of your home to eat your lunch. This will help to clear and refreshed mind and get a fresh start when come back.
5. Family dates on a daily basis: Your spouse and children- don't ignore them. It is very important to spend time with them on a daily basis. Set aside every afternoon to spend time them.
