Domestic violence assessments are completed as a way to determine the risk of violence in a relationship. Often, these assessments will help the social worker (or person completing the assessment) understand whether or not the person or people in a relationship are in danger of getting hurt or being currently abused. These assessments are often used as a way of determining a child's risk of being exposed to violence in the home, and other times they are used simply as a means of protecting those who may be at risk of getting hurt. In some settings, domestic violence assessments are a routine part of everyday care for each client or patient who presents to the setting.
