Your mind does not have enough data for you to adequately and immediately see what it is you are looking at, when viewing at a distance. Ah, but your memory can, because it can fill in the blanks. For instance if you see a car in the distance you know that it is a car, and your mind fills in the details due to the subtleties of its shape, color, and other various clues.
